9 maja 2012, decyzją Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego Bogdana Zdrojewskiego, Sławek Wierzcholski został uhonorowany Srebrnym Medalem "Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis". W imieniu Ministra odznaczenie wręczył Prezes Stowarzyszenia Artystów Wykonawców Utworów Muzycznych i Słowno-Muzycznych Ryszard Poznakowski.

Uroczystość odbyła się w Studiu Koncertowym Polskiego Radia im. Witolda Lutosławskiego w Warszawie przy okazji koncertu promującego najnowszy album Nocnej Zmiany Bluesa pt."30".

Przy tej okazji Sławek udzielił również wywiadu Pawłowi Sztompke na antenie Programu Pierwszego Polskiego Radia - wywiad dostępny tu: http://www.polskieradio.pl/7/160/Artyku ... any-bluesa
